Lesson: How do the prompt key words help me begin?
MATERIALS: You will need copies of narrative prompts in your writing
notebook.
1. Remember to focus on the prompt at the top of the page and read it aloud.
2. Do you see those KEY words? They are very important.
Sometimes it
takes a little practice to find the key words. But after you
become skilled at
finding them, they make your job of writing a passing paper a lot easier.
When
you find a key word, underline and color code key words.
3. The first bullet should be used as a guide for what to write
about in your
paper. It helps you keep on track. For instance, it may
tell you to write about
only one event. PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE FIRST BULLET!
Use the following prompt questionnaire to write the beginning
paragraph of
a prompt.
PLANNING PAPER:
1. What are the key words in the prompt?
2. List 10 words that relate to the key word?
3. Make a lead sentence using the key words from the prompt.
4. Complete the setting questions.
When does this story take place? (month, day, time, season)
Where does this story take place? (place, street, room,
city)
Who is in this story?
5. Write a beginning paragraph for this prompt.
