Lesson: How can I decide on my three events?
Mission: BUILD THE BONES OF YOUR STORY!
FIRST: You will have 1 minute to write 10 words that relate to
the key words
in the prompt. Your teacher will show you a prompt on the overhead.
Remember: Common words like “a,” “an,” and “the,” don’t count!
SECOND: You will have 1 minute to write three sequential (in order)
step
events that occur in relation to the key words in the prompt.
Examples:
BIRTHDAY (eat cake, play games, open presents) CHRISTMAS (look at
decorations, eat dinner with family, open presents) HAPPY (do something
to
help someone, others are proud of you, get a pat on the back) FIELD
TRIP
(enter the museum, look at exhibits, view a movie in the planetarium).
NOTE:
These events are the bones of your story!
You need to practice the skill of building bones every day. The
three events
form the introductory topic sentence of the middle paragraphs of your
story.
